The Layer 2 network, Optimism, has just announced its fourth airdrop, focusing on rewarding the Web3 artist community. According to the official announcement, the airdrop distributed a total of 10,343,757.81 OP, valued at approximately $40.8 million, to 22,998 different addresses. Users have until February 13, 2025, to claim their airdropped tokens.
On the airdrop request page, Optimism stated, “A great society needs artists.” The project views this airdrop as a thank you for the creative contributions of artists and their ability to bring creativity to the blockchain. Those who created NFTs from January 10, 2023, to January 10, 2024, on the Ethereum mainnet or Optimism’s Superchain are eligible for the airdrop.
The airdrop rewards NFT creators based on the amount of gas used for minting or transacting NFTs, thus providing larger rewards to more popular NFT projects. Every 1 ETH of gas on Optimism’s Superchain earns 5,000 OP, and every 1 ETH of gas on the Ethereum mainnet earns 50 OP. The maximum reward for each address is 6,000 OP (equivalent to $23,640).
The airdropped token amount can be increased by 50% or doubled under certain conditions, including creating an NFT contract before January 10, 2023, transferring an NFT after November 11, 2023, or if a collection spent more than 0.0005 ETH to transfer an NFT from July 14, 2023.
Optimism conducted its first airdrop on May 31, 2022, the second on February 8, 2023, and the third on September 13, 2023. The third airdrop distributed 19.4 million OP, valued at $26 million, to nearly 32,000 addresses. The project still has about 560 million OP reserved for future airdrops.
The price of the OP token is currently $3.9, with a 0.71% increase over the past 24 hours. OP has a circulating supply of 957.4 million and a total supply of 4.3 billion.
