Surojit Chatterjee, a former chief product officer for cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase (COIN), has joined venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as an executive in residence for its crypto unit. Chatterjee announced the news in a tweet, expressing his excitement to join the firm and learn from some of the smartest minds in the business.
Chatterjee joined Coinbase in early 2020, according to his LinkedIn page. Prior to that, he spent more than a decade at Google, where he worked on payments, advertising technology and commerce, including the development of Google Shopping.
At Andreessen Horowitz, Chatterjee will be helping out founders and builders scale their businesses. He joins the firm at a time when the crypto industry is facing a downturn due to the crypto winter. Coinbase recently announced that it planned to reduce its headcount by about 20% due to the impact of the crypto winter.
Chatterjee’s experience in the tech and crypto industries will be a valuable asset to Andreessen Horowitz. His expertise in payments, advertising technology and commerce will be invaluable in helping the firm’s portfolio companies navigate the current market conditions. With Chatterjee on board, Andreessen Horowitz is well-positioned to help its portfolio companies succeed in the crypto space.
